October 2023 Lyon Pride Wine Club - Welcome Members!

Dear friends of Eco Terreno Winery,

Autumn is a time of harvest and gratitude for us. From grapes to tomatoes, cucumbers, and herbs—we are celebrating the bounty of a mild and prolific growing season. Soon as the leaves of trees and vines begin to turn brilliant shades of red and gold, we begin welcoming a new season at Eco Terreno. We thank you for your continued support of our wines and vineyard and look forward to many more years of friendship ahead.

No rain, no flowers (or in our case, grapes).

While it has been an interesting growing season in the vineyard it is also proving to be a rewarding one. Like many vineyards across California, we started off a bit behind schedule due to heavy, early rainfalls. This delayed bud break and overall ripening of the grapes but gave our reservoirs and aquifers a nice recharge.  Heat spikes in the final six weeks shifted our white wine grapes into high gear.  On the morning of August 29th, we brought in our first harvest of the season, Old Vine Sauvignon Blanc from our Block 3. Picked at peak maturity, the grapes are already tasting delicious. We quickly completed our Sauvignon Blanc pick accounting for 40% of our vineyard completed in just one week. As we harvest our grapes, we move our chickens into blocks to keep pest populations to a minimum, help our vines to grow healthy, strong, and also support soil recovery.

Time flies when you’re having fun!

Between all three of our operating locations, SF, Sonoma, and Cloverdale, there is never a lack of excitement, fun, and events. We had a full summer pouring wines and attending events between the Bay Area and Sonoma County and look forward to more. Keep an eye on our calendar for upcoming events and we look forward to connecting with you soon.

Eco Terreno 2020 Sansara Sauvignon Blanc bottle

2020 Sansara, Sauvignon Blanc

Tasting Notes:

Our low-yielding Musque clone is responsible for the vibrant characteristics of this Sauvignon Blanc. To define the nose of Sansara, simply think of a stroll through an orchard or garden that welcomes you with aromas of flowering fruit trees giving way to the acidity of the fruit itself. Orange blossom, peach blossom, gooseberry, and passionfruit. The acidity slides under the palate before pulling itself up and over with hints of green bell pepper, lemon mint and the tease of salinity.

Eco Terreno 2020 Cultura Chardonnay

2020 Cultura, Chardonnay

Tasting Notes:

The 2020 Cultura Chardonnay is captivating, enticing the nose with hints of stewed pear, custard, and vanilla. Enlivened with notes of minerality and shortbread, the palate welcomes you with delicate pie crust that foreshadows citrus, lemon meringue, and a pleasing acidity. Bringing the classic California Chardonnay fruit notes of nectarine and melon, the 2020 Cultura maintains a luxurious mouthfeel throughout, finishing with tones of honeycrisp and pink lady apple. Enjoy a glass paired with pork, scallops, or grilled stonefruits to evoke the essence of late summer.

Eco Terreno Barrel Fermented Chardonnay

2016 Barrel Fermented, Chardonnay

Tasting Notes:

The color is bright, clear, medium-gold. The nose is fragrant with lemon curd, stone fruits, apples and flint nuances. The medium to full body has a creamy texture and bright acidity to support ripe fruit flavors of Golden Delicious apples, candied lemon peel and crème brulée. The lingering finish echoes the flavors, ending with bright citrus, brioche and toasted hazelnut notes. This Chardonnay is to enjoy now. James Suckling score: 92 points

Bottle of eco terreno 2017 merlot

2017 Merlot

Tasting Notes:

When Mark first tasted the 2017 Merlot on its own he knew it was a super star in the making. This wine has a very dark purple hue that borders on opaque with an effusively fragrant nose of dark red fruits, cassis, and ripe black cherry. Velvety, full-bodied and satisfying this wine offers mouth-filling flavors of ripe dark fruits, black currant, and baking spices that linger in a long soft finish. James Suckling score: 92 points

Eco Terreno old vine cabernet Sauvignon 2015

2015 Old Vine, Cabernet Sauvignon

Tasting Notes:

Our 2015 Old Vine Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon has an opaque dark purple color with a bright rim. Boysenberry, blackberry compote, cedar box and sweet baking spices aromas fill the very fragrant nose. The flavors are similar adding generous ripe blackberry and mocha impressions, creating a wine that is well balanced and full bodied, drinkable now but perfect for cellaring. The finish is luscious and lingering with warm blackberry pie and dark chocolate nuances. We recommend decanting this wine to enhance its inherent depth and complexity.

Eco Terreno Otono bottle

2017 Otoño, Cabernet Sauvignon

Tasting Notes:

Opaque, clear, dark purple with an effusive nose of black fruits (black currant, huckleberry, blackberry) with aromas of warm toast, brambles, roasting coffee beans, and hints of suede. Smooth, medium-full texture with bright acidity and a wonderfully even mouth feel that amplifies with time. Flavors of blackberry compote, black tea, toasted walnuts are followed by a surprising hint of pomegranate. A clean, sexy, and lingering finish echoes black fruits and dark chocolate.

Eco Terreno 2018 Otono Cabernet Sauvignon

2018 Otoño, Cabernet Sauvignon

Tasting Notes:

Beginning with the nose, our 2018 Otoño Cabernet Sauvignon leads the way with hints of stewed plum, black cherry, and dark fruit. This bouquet harmonizes elegantly with the striking botanical notes of cedar, tarragon, and coastal bay. On the palate, you’ll be introduced to notes of blackberry compote and the richness of coffee beans, transforming midway into an expression of elegant minerality. With a savory finish of leather and dried violets, this Cabernet Sauvignon is an eloquent expression of its unique Alexander Valley terroir, offering depth and complexity in every sip.

2017 Old Vine, Cabernet Sauvignon

A dark purple color with a bright purple rim. Generous aromas of black cherry, black fruits, warm baking spices, and espresso fill a fragrant nose. Flavors of juicy, ripe black cherry and spiced plum, with dried herb impressions, combine to yield a wine that is elegant and multi-layered.
