October 2023 Game of Swans Wine Club - Welcome Members!
Dear friends of Eco Terreno Winery,
Autumn is a time of harvest and gratitude for us. From grapes to tomatoes, cucumbers, and herbs—we are celebrating the bounty of a mild and prolific growing season. Soon as the leaves of trees and vines begin to turn brilliant shades of red and gold, we begin welcoming a new season at Eco Terreno. We thank you for your continued support of our wines and vineyard and look forward to many more years of friendship ahead.
No rain, no flowers (or in our case, grapes).
While it has been an interesting growing season in the vineyard it is also proving to be a rewarding one. Like many vineyards across California, we started off a bit behind schedule due to heavy, early rainfalls. This delayed bud break and overall ripening of the grapes but gave our reservoirs and aquifers a nice recharge. Heat spikes in the final six weeks shifted our white wine grapes into high gear. On the morning of August 29th, we brought in our first harvest of the season, Old Vine Sauvignon Blanc from our Block 3. Picked at peak maturity, the grapes are already tasting delicious. We quickly completed our Sauvignon Blanc pick accounting for 40% of our vineyard completed in just one week. As we harvest our grapes, we move our chickens into blocks to keep pest populations to a minimum, help our vines to grow healthy, strong, and also support soil recovery.
Time flies when you’re having fun!
Between all three of our operating locations, SF, Sonoma, and Cloverdale, there is never a lack of excitement, fun, and events. We had a full summer pouring wines and attending events between the Bay Area and Sonoma County and look forward to more. Keep an eye on our calendar for upcoming events and we look forward to connecting with you soon.
October Selections

2017 Old Vine, Cabernet Sauvignon
Tasting Notes:
A dark purple color with a bright purple rim. Generous aromas of black cherry, black fruits, warm baking spices, and espresso fill a fragrant nose. Flavors of juicy, ripe black cherry and spiced plum, with dried herb impressions, combine to yield a wine that is elegant and multi-layered. The finish is lingering, even, and silken with hints of structure that will aid in aging. Enjoyable now and over the next five years.
2018 Lantana, Sauvignon Blanc
Tasting Notes:
In the glass the wine is a light greenish-gold. The nose intrigues with aromas of golden hay, Pink Lady apples, mandarin orange, and lemon pound cake. Creamy and rich in mouth-feel, the wine offers exotic flavors of white peach, honeydew melon, and lime zest, balanced by a long, silky finish redolent of nectarines and Meyer lemon.
2019 Lo Selvestre, Chardonnay
Tasting Notes:
Our 2019 Lo Selvestre Chardonnay, which roughly translated from Spanish means "The Wild One", was inspired by the wild yeast used for this fermentation. The color is bright, clear, and a pale lemon yellow. The nose is fragrant with pear, white peach, Golden Delicious apples, guava, and toast. The medium to full body has a creamy texture and bright acidity to support ripe fruit flavors of apples, sweet lemon, pear, and brioche. The lingering finish echoes the flavors, ending with bright citrus and a hint of exotic spice. This Chardonnay is to enjoy now and for years to come. It's rich, yet silky style is akin to a Grand Cru white Burgundy.
2018 Otoño, Cabernet Sauvignon
Tasting Notes:
Beginning with the nose, our 2018 Otoño Cabernet Sauvignon leads the way with hints of stewed plum, black cherry, and dark fruit. This bouquet harmonizes elegantly with the striking botanical notes of cedar, tarragon, and coastal bay. On the palate, you’ll be introduced to notes of blackberry compote and the richness of coffee beans, transforming midway into an expression of elegant minerality. With a savory finish of leather and dried violets, this Cabernet Sauvignon is an eloquent expression of its unique Alexander Valley terroir, offering depth and complexity in every sip.
2018 Petit Verdot
Tasting Notes:
Our 2018 Petit Verdot is the first we've ever produced. It has an inky, dark purple color, with a bright purple rim. Fragrant notes of ripe black plum, Madagascar vanilla, and earthy loam are balanced by a hint of sage. The flavors are intense, with ripe black plum, rhubarb, dark chocolate with dried herb impressions. We love its boldness, and celebrate the classic dark fruit flavors. The finish is lingering, even and silken, with hints of a structure that will aid in aging. Enjoyable now and over the next seven years.
2020 Malbec
Tasting Notes:
Our 2020 Malbec enchants with a lively nose, offering juicy notes of blackberry preserves alongside the fragrant embrace of roses, violets, and iris. Hints of plum and mixed berry compote create a delightful bouquet, while undertones of bramble, cassis, and clove add complexity. The palate delivers a harmonious blend of flavors, led by the warmth of sun-soaked dark fruits, with blackberry and berry cordial providing a lushness that plays well with the supple tannins, ensuring a smooth, powerful, and lingering experience all at once.
